GeM (Government e-Marketplace) is India's largest government procurement portal — and registering as a supplier is free. But the process has several steps that trip up first-time sellers. This guide walks you through every step.
Before You Start: What You Need
- Udyam Registration Number (mandatory for MSME benefits) — register at udyamregistration.gov.in if you haven't
- PAN card (individual or company)
- Aadhaar card of the authorized signatory
- GST number (if turnover exceeds threshold)
- Bank account details (cancelled cheque or bank statement)
- Mobile number and email linked to Aadhaar
Step 1: Create Your GeM Account
- Go to gem.gov.in and click Sign Up → Seller
- Enter your Aadhaar-linked mobile number for OTP verification
- Fill in your business details: name, PAN, business type (proprietorship, partnership, company, LLP)
- Enter your Udyam Registration Number if you're an MSME — this unlocks price preference and EMD exemption
Step 2: Complete Your Seller Profile
A complete profile improves your chances of getting orders:
- Business address with PIN code (buyers filter by location)
- Bank account for payments (verify via penny drop)
- ITR / CA Certificate for turnover declaration
- Product categories — select all categories you can supply in
⚠️ Common error: Sellers enter wrong bank details. Double-check IFSC code and account number — GeM payment failures due to wrong bank info are the #1 support complaint.
Step 3: Add Your Products/Services to Catalogue
Go to Sell → Add Product and list your items with:
- HSN code (for products) or SAC code (for services)
- Brand name, make, model
- MRP and your selling price
- Product images (minimum 4, clear background)
- Make-in-India declaration if applicable (unlocks price preference up to 20%)
Step 4: Start Bidding on BidPlus Tenders
Once your catalogue is live, you can bid on tenders in your category. Go to GeM BidPlus and search for tenders matching your products.
But with hundreds of new tenders daily, manually checking is impractical. Most sellers miss relevant bids simply because they don't know they exist.
Track GeM Tenders Automatically
TenderPulse monitors GeM BidPlus 24/7 and sends Telegram alerts the moment a tender matching your keywords appears. Set it up once — alerts arrive automatically for life.

Common GeM Registration Mistakes to Avoid
- ❌ Skipping Udyam registration — you miss MSME price preference (up to 15% on standard bids)
- ❌ Not uploading Make-in-India declaration — costs you preference points
- ❌ Wrong GST category — auto-rejected bids from buyers needing specific GST compliance
- ❌ Low-quality product photos — buyers skip catalogue items with dark or blurry images
- ❌ Registering only in one category — GeM buyers often search multiple categories
